Activities

 

Dermatological visits

 

Therapeutic procedures:

§          Chemical Peeling

§          Cryotherapy

§          Electrocoagulation

§          Laser Therapy (Co2 Laser and Dye-Laser)

§          Dermatological surgery

§          Dressing for eczema

§          Camouflage

 

Diagnostic Procedures:

§          Epicutaneous tests (patch-test, and atopy patch test)

§          Videodermatoscopy

§          Capillaroscopy

§          Mycologic examination (both microscopic and cultural)

§          Cutaneous biopsy

 

An average of 18,000 outpatient services, 800 surgeries and over 5,500 consultations for other Units are carried out every year.

 

 

 

Fields

Ø        Multidisciplinary approach for atopic detrmatitis

Ø        Multidisciplinary approach for neonatal dermatology

Ø        Physical therapy (CO2 laser, cryotherapy, electrocoagulation) and surgery (biopsy or radical removal) as outpatient or day-surgery

 

The Dermatology Unit is a Reference Centre for rare dermatological diseases.

Research Activity

 

Ongoing research projects:

Use of Dye Laser for the treatment of postoperative hypertrophic scars in children.

Application of video-capillaroscopy in the paediatric field.

Evaluation of the atopy patch test for the diagnosis of allergies to food and aeroallergens in patients with atopic dermatitis.

 

 

 

Cooperating Institutes

 

-          “Istituto Dermopatico dell’Immacolata” (IDI) for prenatal and molecular diagnosis of inherited epidermolysis bullosa and severe Ichthyosis.

-          CNR (National Research Council) – Naples for the genetic study of Incontinentia Pigmenti.

-         General Paediatricians from Lazio and other Italian Regions (ACP – Cultural Association of Paediatricians and FIMP – Italian Federation of Paediatricians) for a mutual cultural exchange and in order to optimise the general paediatric services.

-          The specialized telephone consultation service for general paediatricians in Rome and the region, in order to share experience, and in particular to discuss problematic cases.

-          II Postgraduate school in paediatrics of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”.

-          International cooperation: International projects on healthcare assistance and professional training for healthcare workers in developing countries are being carried out jointly with foreign healthcare centres and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

-          Centre for the Study of connective tissue disorders – Biochemistry Department “A. Castellani” – University of Pavia. The cooperation is focused on the study of the Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.

-          Biomedical Science Department – University of Modena.  The cooperation is focused on the study of the pseudoxanthoma elasticum.
